Fresh Golfito Fishing Reports

June and July Is Marlin season

March started slowly this year but we had bites each day out. As the month progressed and the water started to cool the bite steadily improved. April brought the afternoon rains and the Marlin returned to their traditional deep offshore seamount haunts with a fury. Double digit shots became the norm for the rigs that could make the long run up to 100 miles offshore. By mid-month they started to move inshore as the Bonito and small yellowfin congregated around the FAD’s. Six, seven release a day on the Blues and Blacks became average. Now we are approaching peak season. This time is blessed with calm seas and lots of aggressive Marlin. While Stripes will be scarce till August, Black’s and Blue’s will please daily for the stand-up and FLY anglers lucky enough to get in on the action.

Americana Sportfishing client Ron Dupre, fishing with Bobby McGuinness on the 37ft Cazador, enjoyed great Blue Marlin action. About 13-14 miles outside Golfo Dulce, they encountered a school of Marlin just after 11 AM. Before the day was done, they had raised about 15, hooked nine, and released three in an exciting full day of satisfying fishing.

Americana sportfishing clients Sonya Penley and her family came down to Golfito from Playa Nicuesa Lodge to spend July 4 on the Cazador with Captain Bobby McGuinness, and released a Sailfish. Then they caught 14 Grouper, enough for a great Independence Day dinner, and then more.

Peter Narbonne and his buddy were on a overnighter with Captain Bobby McGuinness (photo) on the 37ft Cazador on February 21 and 22. Water was warm, so although they saw lots of fish, the fish weren't biting. Day 1 yielded a Striped Marlin and two Sailfish releases; Day 2: 7-8 Sailfish and a Yellowfin Tuna.
